The People of Wolter Pyro Tools
Many PGI members have already known Richard Wolter for years, but perhaps for the newcomer a little background is in order. Claudia and Rich have been PGII members since 1973 when the guild was first started. In the past they have held the office of Secretary and Treasurer for two years.
He's been making pyro tools for around 35 years, supplying the pyro industry and hobbyist with quality tools at a fair price. Some of the tools in the following pages are his own creations. Most are time tested; standards and some designs were submited by other members.
All in all it is a collection of tools that put the ZIP in pyrotechnics, for without them fireworks would be dull and lifeless. About the tools themselves, he can only say that he buys only quality materials and products that should last a lifetime. He has in the past and will continue to help people with their special needs. It could be that they lost or misplaced a part which needs replacing, or just simply you want to change something for their special needs.
He won't use plastic on any tool where the function dictates the use of aluminum. He uses only 6061 aluminum, no cheaper softer grades. All surfaces are machined and polished, no rough edges or burrs. He believes that a tool should not only work well, it should also look good.
Claudia is known to customers as the voice of Wolter Pyro Tools. She is the one who is on the phone making sure all orders are sent properly and on time, while also punching out thousands of those chipboard discs. One at a time. By hand. She also has a talent for making clay do her bidding, and can often be found spinning out another work of art on the potter's wheel.
Rich Jr. has been machining for 4 years behind the scenes for his father on the pyro tools. He has worked on machines for over 15 years full time. He grew up in the pyro business. He worked with his father learning the CNC lathes, CNC mills, gear hobbers, etc., but most importantly he learned how to design tooling in giving our customers custom equipment.
